Cali Style

Last Thursday M and I left for a long weekend in L.A. Sifting through all of those pesky emails finally paid off with an amazing deal on Virgin America out of JFK airport. The past few days were full of fresh organic veggies and a few celebrity sightings (although I didn’t snap any papparazzi-style pics…you’ll just have to take my word for it.) Spotted on our flight out: my 90’s crush from dad’s flannel shirt with dark lipstick days, Dave Navarro.

P.S. You know you’ve arrived in Hollywood when the flight attendant announces that the luggage will be on carousel  B as in Botox.

I subscribe to the adorable Alicia Silverstone’s blog. She’s an inspiration with her awesome recipes, ideas and places to try. I read about the Spork Sisters and was lucky enough to register for a Saturday morning cooking class at their place on Santa Monica Blvd. We made an amazing three course vegan meal that tasted delicious and left everyone feeling happy and energetic. It was a great way to meet people and learn a few techniques in the kitchen. *Did you know that you can rub your fingers on stainless steel to get rid of the garlic smell after chopping fresh cloves? I tried it today and it really works!

Lemon Thyme Cornbread

Crispy Chocolate Marshmallow Squares…so tasty I ate two. Shhhh…..

Other highlights included sweating my booty off in one of the toughest yoga classes ever at the Equinox gym, spotting another Real Housewife and her hubby at Sur, and bike riding in Santa Monica. California refreshed my love for all things veggie and I can’t wait to get back in the kitchen!

What are you cooking these days?
